This picture is of a small square in Gamla Stan, in Stockholm, Sweden. I've never been there, but one of my goals for the next few years is to go there and find this tree.
"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." - Edgar Allan Poe
I saw that quote and found it appropriate for my first post here. I decided to name this blog "Diary of an aimless wanderer" after having a conversation with my mum. She wanted to know what my goals are. Before you get the wrong impression of her, I must say she is my best friend and extremely supportive of me; nevertheless, she's still a mother, and as such is concerned about my future. And after this conversation I realized I have no idea of what I want to do once I graduate in 2 years. And I kinda love that.
The question "Where will you be in 5 years?" used to make me apprehensive about my lack of drive and ambition. But today I realized that because of my lack of drive and ambition, my answer to that question is much more interesting. "In 5 years I may be a writer, or maybe I'll be working in an orphanage in Uganda, or maybe I'll be making movies." Or maybe none of these, and something different altogether.
The quote in the beginning of this post made me realize that very focused people can sometimes miss the thrill that it is to have endless possibilities. As a daydreamer, I realize happiness is the thing that really matters. I have the privilege of not freaking out about getting a C in math or because I didn't hear my alarm go off and missed a quiz. I understand there are more important things in life.
And even though I'm not the most applied student, all my wandering has taken me to many places and taught me many things, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
So, for the 2 people who'll ever read this: enjoy life! Take a road trip, read a book, go to a museum!
