Yellow Jacket

So, tonight I borrowed my roommate's bright yellow jacket. I absolutely love it! She never wears it because she is self-conscious of all the stares. But I have a lot of fun in that jacket. I don't know if it is because of the jacket; it probably isn't. But something about wearing bright yellow improves my mood.

We went out for pizza and yogurt with another friend tonight, and I really had a blast. I guess it is natural for people to see someone in a yellow jacket and assume that person is outgoing. I am proof that that is not always the case. Still, tonight random people yelled at me, I had a 10 minute conversation with a guy that was selling my roommate a phone, and some guy thought I was his friend's friend and started talking to me at the yogurt place. People are so much more serious around me when I wear my usual black and grey clothes. I have fun wearing yellow.

I got to act crazy silly, laughing really hard in the middle of the street, and still people didn't care. I guess acting crazy is almost expected of a girl in a bright yellow jacket. Acting crazy is fun. I should do it more often.

Oh, I forgot I had a blog...

I had completely forgotten about this blog until tonight! It has been over 18 months.

But now I'm back!

Talking to my roommate about how I needed a hobby other than reading now that reading is my unofficial occupation, I mentioned how I just want to get on a plane and go off somewhere new, and that reminded me of the first post on this blog. So here are updates on my goals from previous posts:

  • No, I have not been to Sweden (yet).
  • I took a semester of French for fun, and now can read some basic French.
  • My friends who were engaged recently got married!
  • I miss Brazil. A lot.
So that is that. Now to new things!

Keeping with the idea that life is too short to be taken that seriously (which would surprise a lot of people, since I'm generally regarded as a serious person), since my last post I have changed my major to English. Maybe I'll be living out of a card-box one day, but at least I'll get to have interesting conversations with the people walking by.

I am still not the most applied student, but I can honestly say I enjoy my classes (at least most of them). I never thought that by studying literature, I would learn so much about psychology, economics, politics, and culture in general. But literature is about people, so I get to learn about all of that.

I never really know how to answer when people ask me what I want to do with my English degree. But now I think that while I think that a degree in Business or Nursing gives straight directions, much like a map (and that is a good thing), a degree in English provides the skills to think through whatever situation you end up in.

I hope to keep up with this blog!
