But now I'm back!
Talking to my roommate about how I needed a hobby other than reading now that reading is my unofficial occupation, I mentioned how I just want to get on a plane and go off somewhere new, and that reminded me of the first post on this blog. So here are updates on my goals from previous posts:
- No, I have not been to Sweden (yet).
- I took a semester of French for fun, and now can read some basic French.
- My friends who were engaged recently got married!
- I miss Brazil. A lot.
Keeping with the idea that life is too short to be taken that seriously (which would surprise a lot of people, since I'm generally regarded as a serious person), since my last post I have changed my major to English. Maybe I'll be living out of a card-box one day, but at least I'll get to have interesting conversations with the people walking by.
I am still not the most applied student, but I can honestly say I enjoy my classes (at least most of them). I never thought that by studying literature, I would learn so much about psychology, economics, politics, and culture in general. But literature is about people, so I get to learn about all of that.
I never really know how to answer when people ask me what I want to do with my English degree. But now I think that while I think that a degree in Business or Nursing gives straight directions, much like a map (and that is a good thing), a degree in English provides the skills to think through whatever situation you end up in.
I hope to keep up with this blog!
